ABOUT US
Connecting People and the Earth's Natural History
A small family business based in Taranaki | New Zealand.

Honouring the natural world and uncovering archeological history, one adventure at a time.

For Fossils Sake is a family of four, doing life, adventuring and exploring the world, all for the sake of fossils. Along the way, we share our passion for fossil education NZ, helping others learn about the treasures beneath our feet.
Our unique factor is that we source all products ourselves. We have no suppliers and instead, search the coasts and rivers of New Zealand to find fossils and gemstones. These are shared with you as fossil collector pieces, jewellery, and hands-on learning experiences for those seeking fossil education in New Zealand.

Karl has found many new species of Fossils, some of which have gone to Universities and local museums to be studied further. Contributing valuable insights to New Zealand’s fossil record and inspiring future generations of collectors and researchers.

Join us on our adventures and travels as we explore, and unearth treasures, one fossil and one adventure at a time.

KARL RAUBENHEIMER

From snake club and boy scouts whilst growing up in Zimbabwe, Southern Africa, to finding fossils in New Zealand, Karl has always had a connection to nature and an interest in things perhaps unusual to the regular human.

Already, with an accolade of new species under his belt, including the new giant crab species, pseudocarcinus karlraubenheimeri, Karl is proving himself as a modern Indiana Jones. His work is not just about collecting, but also about contributing to fossil education NZ, sharing field knowledge with schools, museums, and curious minds.

Despite being prone to injury, Karl will swing that sledge hammer like you've never seen and stop at nothing to get that rock home.

His passion, knowledge and observation is unwavering.
